The Monte Amiata

Monte Amiata (1738m), the highest mountain in southern Tuscany, is one of the most popular excursion destinations in the famous Italian province in every season.

Monte Amiata is located in the heart of southern Tuscany, about 50 kilometers south of Siena. The mountain with its surrounding massif is of volcanic origin, but is now extinct and ideal for various activities and tours. In contrast to the typical Tuscan hills in the Chianti Monte Amiata clearly protrudes from the lovely landscape of southern Tuscany, and when the weather is clear it can be easily recognized from the hills of Siena.

The gently rising slopes are densely forested with deciduous trees and form a harmonious contrast to the surrounding Mediterranean landscape of the valleys and the nearby coastal plain of the Maremma. The many small places at the foot of the mountain are still very original and look almost alpine in their appearance.

Tours on Monta Amiata

The mountain massif is popular for hiking and skiing excursions. Spring and autumn are particularly suitable for hiking tours on Monte Amiata, following the trails along the slopes and up to the summit. In summer, a mountain tour offers ideal refreshment in the hot weather. During the winter months, the summit areas, reaching up to 1738 meters, have enough snow for winter sports , with several lifts and slopes offering varying levels of difficulty.

Arrival to Monte Amiata

Monte Amiata is centrally located to the major Tuscan holiday resorts and can be reached via well-maintained roads from Siena, Montepulciano, or Grosseto . Coming from the north, the SR2 highway leads almost to the mountain, with the final stretch following well-developed secondary roads. The surrounding area is very rural and offers visitors plenty of unspoiled nature, providing a welcome change from the Tuscan cities, which are bustling with visitors year-round.
