The Chianti Sculpture Park
Art objects from all over the world can be seen in the Sculpture Park in Chianti. The harmonious interaction of culture and nature is a unique experience.
Tuscany is one of the most beautiful areas in Italy. Beautiful stretches of land between Florence and Siena form the impressive ambience. Pasta, pizza and the tasty Chianti invite holidaymakers to linger. A small town, in the heart of the Chianti region, has now become a venue for art objects: Pievasciata is home to the Chianti Sculpture Park, a permanent exhibition of installations and sculptures that beautifully and perfectly integrates into the surroundings and the forest.
Harmony out in the woods
It took five years of work to create a unique harmony between the works of art and nature, and in 2004 the park was officially opened. Piero and Rosalba Giadrossi are the midwives of the sculpture presentations: Where the exhibits are today, there was an untouched oak forest and a wild boar farm in the 90s. Today the Chianti Sculpture Park wants one thing above all else: Integration of international art and nature, represented by artists from all five continents. Every single artist could choose a place for his object in the then still wild forest. Today there are unique presentations from Vietnam, America and Zimbabwe on 7 hectares.
Cultural events between art and nature
The park has since been expanded to include a labyrinth and the sculpture "Falling Leaf." In 2009, an amphitheater was added, located at the entrance to the Chianti Sculpture Park. White marble from Michelangelo's quarry in Carrara was used for the stage's backdrop. Mixed with black African granite, the park remains true to its motto of diverse materials and the harmony of art and nature. The amphitheater seats 250 people. Between May and September, concerts and other cultural events are held there. An art gallery – La Vecchia Fornace – with unique exhibitions, is located right next door. The park is open daily from 10:00 AM until sunset, and those who stay until then can experience the unique interplay of nature, art, light, and sound.
