Popular beaches in Tuscany

Content

Even if Tuscany is not necessarily perceived as a beach holiday destination, it can easily keep up with the Riviera.

From Marina di Carrara to Porto Santo Stefano there are wide beaches and wild coasts. The Tuscan coast begins in the north with the white sandy beaches of Versilia.

Seaside resorts such as Marina di Carrara, Marina di Massa and Forte dei Marmi not only have illustrious names, but also many wonderful hotels on the beach in all categories. Forte dei Marmi with its pier protruding far into the sea and the beautiful boutiques and cafés is certainly the most fashionable place in Versilia and has the widest beaches. As everywhere in Italy, they are managed by so-called Bagnos, small beach operations that rent loungers and umbrellas on their areas, but drinks and snacks are served.

Viareggio in the very south of Versilia scores with its famous beach promenade Passeggiata, on which there is also the famous Café Margherita, where Puccini was already a regular. Otherwise, the side of the city facing the sea is characterized by magnificent Belle Epoque hotel palaces, while inside the alleys around a permanent one Markt arrange around the center.

From Pisa to the Etruscan coast

Pisa's harbor silted up centuries ago, which is why the famous leaning tower has not stood by the sea for a long time. If you want to go on a beach holiday here, go to Marina di Pisa at the mouth of the Arno. The place shines with pretty Art Nouveau houses, but the path into the sea is rocky, but you don't pay a beach fee for that. Further south in Tirrenia lies the wonderful beach behind a pine forest and south of Livorno begins the Etruscan coast with its famous settlement San Vincenzo. In this region there are cozy family hotels as well as spacious ones Holiday homes very close to the beach.

Porto Santo Stefano and the Maremma

It is in the very south of Tuscany Maremma nature reserve. The region is known for its white cattle, the Maremma cowboys and first-class designer wines. If you love your beach vacation a little more romantic and want to call more than just five square meters of beach your own, this is the right place to sunbathe. Lonely bays, framed in untamed nature, attract individualists, just as the glamorous seaside resort of Porto Santo Stefano attracts the jet set yachts and of course many curious people who love romantic, picturesque hotels and good restaurants on the coast.
