The Saturnia thermal baths are probably one of the oldest and most famous Thermal baths in Tuscany. The hot water has been coming out of the ground at 3000 liters per second for around 500 years.
The thermal water is 37 ° C and has a high sulfur content (14 mg / liter hydrogen sulfide). It flows from a natural spring over the Cascate del Mulino, the "mill waterfalls", into a natural basin. This is open to the public; bathing is free here.
It is possible that Saturnia, then called Aurina, was the first city of the Etruscans. Saturnia is southwest of Grosseto, behind Scansano, the thermal baths are well signposted.
The thermal baths are not only frequented by tourists but also by locals. It should therefore be noted that the public area of the thermal baths can be very crowded during the main season.
