Pistoia is only about 35 km from Florence. The city with its 90.000 inhabitants is more of an industrial city. The capital of the same name Postoia Province. There are many metalworking companies and a large number of tree nurseries here.

Sights in Pistoia

In addition to the landscape around the city and the ski area, the city, which is surrounded by a historic city wall, also offers some sights. The wall was built in the 14th century and is still part of the city today.

The city's zoo is also recommended. This has existed since 1970 and has a size of 75.000 square meters. There is also a huge playground in the zoo, where exotic animals can also be seen. In addition, the Wonder Park is worth a visit when staying in Pistoia.


The church of Sant 'Andrea has its origins in 1298 and impresses the façades, which were designed by popular Italians. The facade is two-tone and designed in a design that is intended to represent the region.

In terms of culture, the provincial capital also has a number of buildings and highlights to offer. The Duomo Santi Zeno e Jacopo, which is located on the cathedral square, represents the city's cathedral. It was built in 923. After being destroyed and rebuilt in the meantime, it is now a popular destination for tourists in the region. The baptistery also has enormous historical significance for the region and is one of the most visited sights in the city. At the Domplatz there is also a regular Market to which locals from all over the region come.

Also worth seeing outside the capital of the province is the Villa La Magi. The attraction is located in the town of Quarrata and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site for several years and is therefore attracting more and more visitors. The History the villa, which the Panchiatichi family commissioned to plan, dates back to 1335.

In the Ecomuseo della Montagna Pistoiese museum you can learn more about the nature of the region. It is located north of the city of Pistoia and attracts with ever changing themed exhibitions and detailed explanations. In some cases, the museum's exhibition also leads outside and thus illustrates the history of the region with the importance of nature more clearly.
