Sights in Tuscany

Content

If you visit the sights in Tuscany, you will spend your vacation in the heart of Italy and come across the traces of the Etruscans.

The central Italian region of Tuscany is considered the Mecca for art and culture lovers. No wonder - after all, there are a number of cities of art history in the region, most of which can be traced back to the Etruscan era. Beach holidaymakers also feel at home in Tuscany: the Etruscan Riviera has fine sandy beaches and idyllic bays. The mysterious and mountainous one is worth a day trip Elba-Island.

Florence and its architectural monuments

Tuscany is also home to many other sights: you should definitely not miss the city Florence, whose cultural significance is undisputed. For example, the historic center of Florence is part of the UNESCO World Heritage, with the application saying that "any justification for this is ridiculous and unabashed" - after all, it is about the world's largest collection of important works of art. The Ponte Vechico is one of the few structures that was not damaged in World War II. The bridge dates back to Etruscan times and is now lined with many jewelry shops. The magnificent Florence Cathedral was built in the Italian Gothic style and was completed in the 14th century. Many different artists were involved in its construction. The sculptures that can now be admired in the Museum of the Duomo's Works, the stained glass windows and the bell tower known as the Campanile di Giotto, which dominates the cityscape, deserve a special mention.

From early medieval buildings and wine-growing areas

The city trip continues to Pisa: its landmark is the Crookedness Tower of pisawhich was originally built as a bell tower. A stroll through the winding streets with the traditional yellow houses of the old town is also recommended. The city of Cortona was once founded by the Etruscans and is one of the oldest cities in Tuscany. The medieval buildings in the city center and the city wall from the 4th century are well worth seeing. The wine region too Chianti is a must for visitors: the green hills and idyllic villages of this unique cultural landscape invite you to relax.

Chianti Sculpture Park

The Chianti Sculpture Park, located in Pievasciata near Siena, is a 17-hectare open-air museum of modern art. Amidst the idyllic Tuscan landscape, 26 contemporary installations and sculptures by artists from all over the world were exhibited. The works are placed along a 1km path and provide a harmonious contrast to the natural surroundings. The park also has an amphitheater that serves as a venue for concerts and cultural events from May to September. The park, founded in 2004 by art lovers Piero and Rosalba Giadrossi, is open daily from 10.00 a.m. to sunset. To optimize your visit, we recommend downloading the free ChiantiPark app. The Chianti Sculpture Park is an absolute must for art lovers and offers a unique combination of art and nature.
